Join Ciné Résistance for the next Tuesday evening exploring the intersections of art, resistance, and identity, with a focus on implementing an ongoing occupation & genocide, Palestine and the SWANA region, into art. The event kicks off with a thought-provoking talk with Petra Serhal and Asifeh. Together, Petra and Asifeh will explore how art can reflect and resist occupation, examining their own practices and the broader cultural landscape of Palestine, engaging with art as a form of dialogue and activism. Petra is going to show her work as an interdisciplinary artist while Asifeh follows with a Hiphop influenced LIVE concert.

ASIFEH. Asifeh is a beatmaker and rapper based in Vienna and Ramallah. Asifeh's music consists of rap vocals, sampled material, and original compositions using all kinds of new and old abandoned technologies. He is co-founder of former Ramallah Underground, and he is 1/3 of the Aiwa Collective.

"Initially, I didn’t have serious plans to make music, I only experimented with it after getting an electric guitar and playing with it on Fruity Loops. Then I met Muqata'a, who I co-founded Ramallah Underground with, in high school. He was doing Trip Hop at that time. We hung out and came up with the idea to put out something meaningful together. That was during the Second Intifada. You have to imagine: There were Israeli occupation tanks everywhere, snipers on the roofs, F16s and Apache helicopters were dropping bombs, we had checkpoints between all the neighborhoods, and strict long-lasting curfews. So, most of the time we were stuck in our homes and weren’t allowed to go anywhere, not even to school, with the full knowledge that each time you wanted to go out you would risk getting arrested, shot, or harassed by the Israeli occupation forces." - Asifeh.

PETRA SERHAL. Petra Serhal is a multidisciplinary artist creating multisensorial work. Her work revolves around the experiential aspects of performative experiences while using choreography as her main tool for research and practice. Her work examines the body, language, and sound in relation to movement and space, addressing themes like memory, fragmentation, and embodiment. Recently, Serhal's work focuses on olfactory art, exploring the power of scent and nature as a means of identity, rootedness, and spatial creation.

"As a Lebanese citizen forbidden to enter Occupied Palestine, I felt the need to be ready for this possible future visit. I started talking to Palestinians who either lived in Palestine before 1948 or who are now living in Occupied Palestine, to take me on an olfactive journey to their homes, as a way to construct an understanding of the places soon to be visited. The memory of the land through its scentsstarted reconstructing landscapes and homes that can never be occupied or wiped out." - Petra Serhal
